Eligibility Criteria for B.A. (Honours) Courses under different categories.

For Comparative Literature At least 60% in aggregate with 60% marks in first & second language each. At least 50% in aggregate with 50% marks in first & second language each. Selection Procedure

Economics* Marks obtained by the candidates in Mathematics shall be added to the aggregate marks calculated following the guideline laid down in aggregate marks calculation to arrive at the final score. Students shall be ranked according to their final score.
Sanskrit On the basis of aggregate percentage obtained in the H.S. /Equivalent Examination.
English*, Comparative Literature*, History* On the basis of a two and a half hour written test for English and a two hour written test for Comparative Literature & History.
Political Science* On the basis of
  • 50% weightage to the aggregate percentage obtained in H.S./Equivelant Examination.
  • 50% weightage to the performance in a written test.
Bengali* On the basis of
  • 25% weightage to the marks obtained in Bengali.
  • 25% weightage to marks obtained in English.
  • 50% weightage to the performance in a written test (two hour).
Philosophy* In accordance with a common merit list based on
  • 50% weightage to the aggregate percentage obtained in H.S./Equivelant Examination.
  • 50% weightage to the performance in a written test.

*Sports Category : Selection under the Sports category for a particular subject of study will be made in order of merit on the basis of the academic score of the candidates for all the games/events taken together.

Candidates under the sports category are advised to apply for, and if necessary appear at the Written Test for as many subjects as they would like to be considered for. Not more than two students will be selected for admission in a particular subject under the sports quota.

Candidates who have passed the H.S. or it's equivalent examination (under 10+2 system) through a correspondence course under any recognized Board/Council will be required to sit for a Preliminary Qualifying Test (PQT).

Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination / Central Board of Secondary Education / Other Boards Aggregate marks of best 4 subjects, out of 400 marks.
For Economics only :
Aggregate marks of best 3 subjects (excluding Mathematics) plus marks of Mathematics (out of 400).

SC/ST Category :
As per circular Nos. BC-16014/1/82-SC dt.06/08/1984 & BCD-1, D.O.12017/11/89-SCD(R.CELL) dt.09/01/1990 and letter No.1510-SCW dt.31/05/2007 from the Government of West Bengal, Scheduled Castes/ Scheduled Tribes of the States other than West Bengal are not entitled to get the benefit of reserved quota in Educational Institutions in West Bengal.

Eligibility Criteria

Physics Candidates having passed 10+2 Examination from any recognized Board in Science with Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and securing at least 65% marks in average obtained in Chemistry, Mathematics & Physics are eligible. In case of SC/ST/PD/Sports category, minimum requirement of marks is48% in average obtained in the above mentioned three(3) subjects and minimum 40% disability in case of the PD candidates.

Note :
A student who has obtained the Bachelor Degree from a recognized University is not eligible for admission to the Bachelor Degree course of this University.

Jadavpur University has accepted in principle that each and every student of the University shall be duty bound during the entire period of studentship with the University to immediately report to the Dean of Students if any ragging is noticed either in University hostel or on University campus. If any incident of ragging comes to the notice of the Authority, the concerned student shall be given liberty to explain and if his explanation is not found satisfactory, the Authority would expel him/her from the University.


Selection Procedure

Admission be made strictly according to the marks obtained in the Higher Secondary or equivalent examination. There will be no Admission Test. Incomplete application in any respect will be summarily rejected.

Merit lists of the candidates to be called for interview for Honours in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Geological Sciences will be prepared on the basis of the marks obtained in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in Higher Secondary or equivalent examinations. Subject weightage to the candidates opting for Honours in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics will be given as follows:

Physics Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics (300 marks) + Physics (100 marks) : (Score out of 400)
Chemistry Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics (300 marks) + Chemistry (100 marks) : (Score out of 400)
Mathematics Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics (300 marks) + Mathematics (100 marks) : (Score out of 400)
Geological Sciences Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics (300 marks) : (Score out of 300)

In case of bunching of marks in the merit lists for admission of the last candidate the selection be made as per the following criteria :


Physics In case of bunching of total marks in the merit list at first the marks of Physics at +2 level be considered. Even if there is a further bunching of marks of Physics at +2 level, the marks of Mathematics at +2 level be considered.
Chemistry In case of bunching of total marks in the merit list at first the marks of Chemistry at +2 level be considered. Even if there is a further bunching of marks of Chemistry at +2 level, the marks of Mathematics at +2 level be considered.
Mathematics In case of bunching of total marks in the merit list at first the marks of Mathematics at +2 level be considered. Even if there is a further bunching of marks of Mathematics at +2 level, the marks of Physics at +2 level be considered.
Geological Sciences In case bunching of total marks in the merit list at first the marks of Mathematics at +2 level be considered. Even if there is a further bunching of marks of Mathematics at +2 level, the marks of Physics at + 2 level be considered. Again if there is a bunching of marks of Physics at + 2 level the marks of Chemistry at +2 level be considered.

Step 2 Select the course(s) you want to apply for. You can apply for more than one subject.
But you have to submit separate application for each category.
Step 3 Print your bank challan and go to any branch of the State Bank of India and pay the required amount of money using the challan
Step 4 Login (you will get Login ID after submission of online application) to the website and upload the fees deposite details into the website.

If any candidate wants to fill the form second time, he/she has to enter his/her H.S. or equivalent Roll number followed by dup (Ex. If your H.S. or equivalent Roll number is 5008456 then you have to enter 5008456dup).
